A Chinese mugger’s uncharacteristic gesture after stealing from his victim has earned him some praise from netizens online.
A knife-wielding man robbed a woman at an ATM in southern China’s Guangdong province however, on realising that she has no money left, the robber return the looted cash. The moment was captured on the CCTV which is winning millions of hearts.
Based on the surveillance camera footage from inside the ICBC bank, the man is seen creeping up behind the victim with a knife.
The woman, named only by her surname Li, hands over 2,500 yuan (£280) she had just got out the ATM. But she shows him she has no more money left in her account. On this, the robber returns the cash and smiles as he leaves.

The man has since been dubbed China’s “kindest” robber. His seemingly honorable gesture, however, did not save the mugger from his crime as local authorities eventually caught and arrested him.
