As vice president, Kamala Harris has supported various loan forgiveness measures, including President Biden’s proposal to cancel between $10,000 and $20,000 of student debt for lower-income borrowers.

Although this plan was struck down by the Supreme Court, President Biden has proposed an alternative solution to assist borrowers. If elected president, Harris is likely to continue advocating for student loan relief, given her track record and previous support for such initiatives.

Kamala Harris’s stance on student loans
Harris has made it clear in the past how she feels about school spending, even before she is named vice president.
While she was attorney general of California, she sued a for-profit college for confusing low-income students and taking advantage of them.

She also joined a movement started by the attorneys general of several states to help students who got into a lot of debt because of dishonest college practices.
As a senator, she backed the Debt-Free College Act, but it did not become law.
In her initial 2020 presidential bid, Harris put forth a more limited version of the debt cancellation plan that she would later embrace while serving in the Biden administration.
