Who will get an SSDI payment on September 16?
People who are part of the regular Social Security payment cycle and were born from the 11th through the 20th usually get their payment on the third Wednesday of each month. That makes September 16 the payment date for this group in 2026.
For example, someone born on January 15 would normally be in this group. The same applies to people born on May 11 or October 20. The payment rule can also cover certain family and survivor benefits. In these cases, the birthday used for the payment date can belong to the worker whose earnings record is being used for the benefit.
Not every SSDI recipient follows this Wednesday schedule. People who received Social Security before May 1997 generally have a different payment date. People who receive both Social Security and SSI also usually get their Social Security payment on the third day of the month.
What are the other September SSDI payment dates?
The regular Wednesday schedule for September has three main dates. The second Wednesday was September 9 for people born from the 1st through the 10th. The third Wednesday is September 16 for birthdays from the 11th through the 20th. The fourth Wednesday will be September 23 for birthdays from the 21st through the 31st. Most Social Security payments are sent electronically. Beneficiaries usually receive their money through direct deposit or a Direct Express card.
A payment that doesn’t appear immediately may sometimes be delayed by a bank or financial institution. SSA says beneficiaries should allow three additional mailing days before contacting the agency about a missing payment.
