Nitish Kumar is all set to take oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar for the fourth straight term today at Raj Bhavan in Patna in the presence of Governor Phagu Chauhan. Nitish Kumar-led JD(U) finished at the third spot with 43 seats, way behind second-placed BJP which got 74 seats. The remaining two NDA partners – HAM and VIP – secured four seats each. The ceremony will be attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president Jagat Prakash Nadda.

According to media reports, Nand Kishore’s name was finalised at a meeting of the NDA constituents at a late-night meeting on Sunday. The Speaker’s post has been with the JDU ever since he took over a decade and a half ago. JDU leader Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, who was Speaker in the previous tenure, will join Nitish Kumar’s Cabinet.

 Who is Nand Kishore Yadav?

Nand Kishore Yadav is a senior BJP leader. He contested elections from the Patna Sahib Assembly seat. This will be his seventh consecutive term in the Assembly. Yadav defeated Congress candidate Pravin Singh by a margin of nearly 17,000 votes.

Nand Kishore Yadav joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in 1969. He was also actively involved in student politics. He joined the social movement launched by Late Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan in 1974 against the Congress.

The Patna Sahib seat is considered a BJP stronghold. A cabinet minister of road in the current Nitish government, Nand Kishore Yadav has won from here since 1995. He also served as the leader of opposition in Bihar Assembly after a split in the NDA in 2013.

Deputy Chief Minister: Tarkishore Prasad (BJP)

Deputy Chief Minister: Renu Devi (BJP)

Minister: Vijay Kumar Chaudhary (JDU)

Minister: Santosh Suman (HAM). He is the son of Jitan Ram Manjhi. Santosh is a member of the Legislative Council

Minister: Mukesh Sahni. He heads the VIP. Interestingly, the former Bollywood set designer lost elections from Simri Bakhtiyarpur

Minister: Vijendra Prasad Yadav (JDU). He won from Supual

Minister: Ashok Choudhary will also take oath. He is the working president of Janta Dal-United

Minister: Mewa Lal Choudhary of the JDU will take the path. Choudhary won from Tarapur in Munger district. He had won from here in 2015

Minister: Sheela Mandal of the JDU to take oath today. Sheela Mandal won from Phulparas in Madhubani. Sheela defeated Kripanath Thakur of Congress and Bonod Kumar Singh of the LJP

Ministers: BJP leaders Mangal Pandey and Ram Prit Paswan will also take oath on Monday.

Speaker: BJP leader Nand Kishore Yadav is set to be the Speaker in the new Assembly. Nand Kishore won from the Patna Sahib Assembly seat.
