The Supreme Court asked the Government to work together with firms like Google, Yahoo!, Facebook and WhatsApp to advise list of keywords that will help curb indecent videos. The order was passed in a bid to ensure explicit videos showing rape, gang rape and child pornography are not available for circulation.

A Bench of justices Madan B Lokur and Uday Lalit passed this order after an NGO sought the court’s intervention to block such contents.

In 2015, the SC had taken suo motu cognisance of a letter written to the then Chief Justice of India by Prajwala. Prajwala sent a pen drive containing videos showing the crime committed by the gang and sought proper action against the culprits, who had the nerve to upload the offensive clips.

The letter was then changed into a PIL.

On March 22, the court formed a technical expert committee to aid on the feasibility of ensuring that such offensive videos are not available.

Now, the court accepted the 11 recommendations based on the agreement. It in its order said the Centre should work on suggesting keywords for blocking such contents.
