India’s oldest book fair, New Delhi World Book Fair hiccuped for few minutes when two factions confronted each other over Vedas and Quran. The incident took place near stall number 115 when the intense discussions boiled into a controversy.

In a poster placed at the stall, various similarities in Vedas and Qurans were presented, which became the bone of contention. According to the members of Gyanodaya University, on the posters, acts of Vedas have been shown representing the similarities with Quran.

Members of university alleged that in order to portray Islam as the best religion, wrong information has been represented. While, the Work Charitable Trust quashing all the allegations said “The words of the Vedas are written with the lines of Quran with an intention to spread love and harmony among people.”

Security guard had to intervene and bring calm.

New Delhi World Book Fair is hosted at Pragati Maidan every year. The first installment took place between March 18 and April 4 1972. It was then inaugurated by V.V. Giri, President of India at the time.
