What is World Day of Peace?
World Day of Peace is an annual day of observance dedicated to peace. It is celebrated every year on January 1st, and was established by the United Nations in 1981. The day aims to promote a global culture of peace and non-violence, and to encourage all people to take action against injustice, hatred, and violence.
Each year, the United Nations General Assembly adopts a theme for World Day of Peace. This year’s theme is “The Right to Peace – The Universal Declaration of Human Rights at 70”. The day also marks the start of the International Year of Sustainable Development Planning.
On World Day of Peace, people around the world come together to reaffirm their commitment to peace. There are many ways to celebrate the day, such as holding peaceful rallies or vigils, attending concerts or performances promoting peace, or simply taking a moment of silence to reflect on the importance of peace in our lives.
No matter how you choose to celebrate World Day of Peace, remember that every act of kindness, compassion, and respect helps create a more peaceful world for everyone.
