World Usability Day 2021: November 12 is World Usability Day (also known as “Make Things Easier Day”). On this day we celebrate the pursuit of creating an effortless, intuitive product experience.
Supporters of an improved product experience aim to go beyond building a “functional” product. As the organizers of World Usability Day put it, “We don’t have to put up with products and services that don’t work well; we believe that human error is a misnomer. No one should have to suffer through products and services that get in their way. People should not be made to feel stupid by technology.”
The relationship between usability and accessibility
This is deeply tied to accessibility; creating an accessible and (key word here) usable experience will enhance the experience for everyone, not just for those with disabilities. At TPGi, we are big proponents of simplicity. Fewer steps, moving parts, and complexities involved in a product make it more likely to be both useful and accessible.
It ain’t easy
However, don’t confuse “simple” with “easy” during the product creation process. In fact, it’s usually the opposite. It’s often harder to create a product that’s easy to use because you’re forced to account for many variables without complicating the process of using the product itself. But don’t despair, the UX team at TPGi is here to help your organization accomplish exactly that.
World Usability Day 2021: Significance
The day aims at bringing together communities of professional, industrial, educational, citizen, and government groups for the common objective, i.e., to ensure that the services and products important to life are easier to access and simpler to use. The day is all about celebration and education.
Celebrating because of generating usable products and educating the public about how usability impacts our daily lives. It is to make our world work better.
World Usability Day 2021: Theme
The theme for World Usability Day 2021 is “Design of our Online World: Trust, Ethics, and Integrity.” This year’s theme focuses on exploring online design systems that help us stay connected, learn, and grow in such transformational times. With the help of the theme, several important issues are addressed including Dark Patterns, and Ethical Design, Designing for Trust, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
The internet has transformed our lives and has reduced the world to a global village. Various daily activities, work, meetings, medical appointments, etc. have turned virtual. Therefore, several challenges are being faced for designing the world online like how to create trust in the online environment, ethical implications of our designs, etc.
