Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman was born in Oakland, California on September 1, 1996. Both of her parents, Claire Stoermer and Kazembe Ajamu Coleman, are educators. Zendaya began acting at the California Shakespeare Theatre in Orinda, California, where her mother worked as the house manager during the summer. She attended Oakland School for the Arts and was featured in a number of local theatre productions.
