Fear has once again gripped Azadpur Sabzi Mandi – Asia’s largest wholesale market of fruits and vegetables – as at least 11 new cases of coronavirus have been reported from the area. According to reports, 11 traders have been tested positive for deadly COVID-19.
Confirming 11 new cases, North Delhi District Magistrate Deepak Shinde said efforts are on to trace people who came in contact with these 11 coronavirus patients.
“Eleven traders associated with Delhi’s Azadpur Sabzi Mandi have tested positive for coronavirus. We are tracing the contacts of the cases,” Shinde was quoted as saying by ANI.
According to Shinde all 11 traders are ‘not directly related to the Mandi.’
A large number of people were tested for the novel coronavirus after a 57-year-old commission died of the COVID-19 last week in the area.
Number of cases could be much higher
Azadpur Mandi APMC member Anil Malhotra said that the exact number of coronavirus positive patients is much more than this because concerned authorities don’t have reports of many such persons.
He also said that no initiative has been taken to ensure the regular and smooth functioning of the mandi.
Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus positive cases in the national capital has jumped to 3,314. More than 1,000 people in Delhi have so far recovered from the disease while 54 people have succumbed to the illness.
However, the good news is that the national capital has reported the lowest number of positive cases ever since the coronavirus outbreak eight weeks ago.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Satyendra Jain said that those who don’t have permission should not perform plasma therapy as it is very technical and at an experimental stage.
