A 19-year-old employee of GoAir airlines allegedly hanged himself to death on Thursday evening at his home allegedly due to work pressure.

Manthan Chavan, resident of Chandramani Nagar area in Ajni, was part of the Mumbai-based airline’s ground staff at the Nagpur airport.

Going by the reports,  Chavan hanged himself from an iron rod of a ventilator at his home at around 2:45 PM. Chavan’s father told the police its not clear why his son committed suicide, but he may have taken the extreme step due to work stress. The deceased was on leave as he was down with jaundice for the last nearly two weeks.

Manthan’s seniors reportedly summoned him to work even after he informed them about his ailing health and requested them to grant him a few days’ leaves to recuperate. However, his superiors did not entertain his request and even threatened to terminate his employment.

“No suicide note was found at the spot, from where a piece of paper was recovered with the message, Happy birthday mummy – I am sorry”. It was Manthan’s mother’s birthday yesterday,” police said.

The Ajni police have registered a case of accidental death. Meanwhile, GoAir reportedly extended condolences to the family of the deceased and assured full cooperation to the investigating authorities in this case. The firm also assured to immediately release Manthan’s dues and other compensation as per the Company policy.
