21-Year-Old Woman Jailed for False Testimony: A court in Bareilly sentenced a 21-year-old woman on Saturday for giving a false testimony in a kidnapping and rape case registered in 2019.
Her sentence, four years, eight months, and six days, is the same as that of the 25-year-old man implicated in the case.
She was also fined Rs 5.88 lakh, with an additional six months of imprisonment if she failed to pay.
A court ordered that the amount be paid to the man implicated in the case.
According to government counsel Sunil Pandey, the fine of Rs 5,88,822.47 was determined using the daily wages set by the Uttar Pradesh government for unskilled labor.
Sunil Pandey, government counsel, said, “During cross-examination, the woman backtracked on her earlier statement.
Her arrest and imprisonment followed her denial that the youth kidnapped and raped her.”
Pandey said the 25-year-old man was acquitted last month due to a lack of evidence. The woman was later released on bail.
She was found guilty under IPC section 195 (false evidence with the intent to procure a conviction).
Among the punishments given to her were rigorous imprisonment for four years, six months, and eight days, or 1,653 days, as well as a fine of Rs 5,88,822.47/-. If the fine is not paid, she will be sentenced to simple imprisonment for an additional six months.” From September 30, 2019, to April 8, this year, the man was imprisoned.
