Making the proud, a 22-year-old Safin Hasan who hails from Gujarat, has become India’s youngest IPS officer and will join Jamnagar police as Assistant Superintendent of Police on December 23.

Hasan, a native of Kanodar village in Palanpur district, Gujarat cracked the coveted 2017 Union Public Services Commission exams by securing an all-India rank of 570. He qualified to become an IPS officer, but wanted to be an IAS officer.

According to The Times of India, Hasan’s parents, Mustafa Hasan and Naseembanu, lost their jobs in a Surat diamond unit and had trouble funding his education. His father took up a job as an electrician and his mother rolled chappatis for restaurants and marriage halls to support the family in addition to selling tea and eggs in the winter months.

Safin was lucky enough to also get the support of businessmen and the society in general to pursue his dream, and prove his worthiness.

Having seen a DM in his village (Kanodar, Palanpur) meeting with people and promising to solve their problems, Hasan was inspired to prepare for the UPSC Civil Services exam. He studied from National Institute of Engineering (NIT) and then pursued his dream with the help and resources of the Polara family.
