4th Saturday of every month to be ‘No Bag Day’ in Telangana schools

As part of the No Bag Day initiative, the fourth Saturday of every month will be devoted to field trips to museums, historical sites and gramme panchayats, as well as indoor activities such as science experiments, doodling, model assembly and model elections. This will make learning in the schools more interesting, engaging and enjoyable.

In addition to reducing pressure and bag burden on students, the School Education department has designated the fourth Saturday of every month as bagless day in all schools beginning with the current academic year.

State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT), a division of the School Education department, has issued a memo for 10 bagless days for students in Classes I through X.

Accordingly, the primary section will have three sessions: show time, amusement station, and creative circle. Students in Classes I and II will be asked to speak about their family, imitate a family member, and draw a caricature of a family member as part of these sessions designed to foster the development of communication and creative skills.

As part of activity-based learning for students in Classes III, IV, and V, a theme on livelihood has been developed in which they will be requested to speak and act on the occupation of their choice, in addition to drawing the tools used in the profession.

Outdoor and indoor activities, including field trips to the post office, construction sites and ration stores, as well as family budget surveys, model assembly elections and financial transactions, have been incorporated into experiential learning for students in classes six through ten. They have a total of 28 activity-based learning concepts.

The initiative’s primary objective is to bridge the divide between theoretical knowledge and practical application, while exposing students to a variety of work skills and empowering them to make informed career decisions.

“As part of the excursion to the post office, students will be asked to conduct interviews with the postmaster and mail carrier about their jobs. They will also be required to conduct interviews with residents regarding post office services. Such visits provide students with hands-on experience and information about numerous career opportunities, according to an official.

Students in secondary school will also be exposed to the fundamentals of artificial intelligence, its applications, and career opportunities.
