9 Lives Lost in Twin Explosions at Firecracker Units: Tuesday brought about the deaths of at least nine individuals when firecracker manufacturing factories in the vicinity of Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu, were targeted by simultaneous explosions.

Preliminary reports suggest that the detonation occurred within the factory as untrained personnel engaged in the process of chemical mixing. There were as many as 23 employees present in the factory on Monday morning when the disaster transpired, ensnaring them within.

“Just this morning three new women began working here. They are among those dead,” a police officer, who did not wish to be named, said.

The proprietor Rajendran and the factory’s supervisor, his son-in-law, were charged under the applicable provisions of the Explosive Substances Act and the Indian Penal Code. “Attached are both individuals,” the officer reported.

Only seven of the nine victims have been identified so far. “It is a licensed unit,” the officer said, adding that the unit was operating with a license since 2014, and the permit was recently renewed until 2024.

The first detonation reportedly occurred in the district of Virudhunagar, and firefighters were dispatched to the scene. According to ANI, a second detonation occurred in an additional unit located in Kammapatti village, which is situated in the same district.

It required several fire fighters hours to extinguish the blaze. More than two and a half hours were required to extinguish the fire. “It was a catastrophic accident,” a member of the rescue crew exclaimed.

The incinerated remains were transported to the Government College Hospital in Ariyalur. Critical patients are receiving treatment at the Thanjavur Medical College Hospital.

Chief Minister M K Stalin declared a ₹3 lakh payment to the bereaved families, an additional ₹1 lakh to those who sustained severe injuries, and ₹50,000 to those who sustained minor injuries.

Four individuals were injured and thirteen were tragically consumed in a catastrophic fire that broke out at a pyrotechnic shop-turned-godown in Attibele, rural Bengaluru, close to the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border, on Saturday. Monday’s incident occurs less than twenty-four hours after that calamity broke out.

Police officials have verified that nine individuals have been killed as a result of the explosions thus far. Additional information is awaited.
