Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Wednesday said that her party will extend support to the Congress in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, to keep the Bharatiya Janata Party out of power.

In a statement, Mayawati said, “Our aim is to keep the BJP out of power. And that is why we have decided to support the Congress in Madhya Pradesh.”

“Results show that people in states like Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh were totally against the BJP and its anti-people policies and as a result chose Congress due to lack of other major alternatives,” Mayawati added.

The BSP has won two seats in the 230-seat Madhya Pradesh assembly, in which the Congress has emerged the largest party but is two short of the majority mark of 116. The BJP is not far behind, with 109 seats.

Further, Mayawati said that her party will support Congress  in Rajasthan too. “We have decided to support the Congress in Rajasthan as well. We fought these elections to ensure that the BJP does not come back to power,” added Mayawati.
