Pakistan's one-trick pony act on Kashmir doesn't resonate at UN: Syed Akbaruddin

A day after NIA filed a chargesheet against JeM in the Pathankot attack, India’s permanent representative to the United Nations Syed Akbaruddin urged for international action against terror groups like Lashkar-e- Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and their “shadowy supporters”.

“We need to address, as an imperative, support (to) terrorist groups like (the) Taliban, al-Qaida and its designated affiliates like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Muhammad, which operate outside the fabric of international law (and) draw from shadowy supporters outside Afghanistan,” he was quoted as saying.

In the wake of Russian ambassador’s murder in Turkey, India reminded the world of the threat of terrorism and safe havens of terror. “We live in times when the shadow of barbarism is not very far from us. This manifests itself sometimes in acts such as the dastardly attack on the Russian Federation’s Ambassador to Turkey that we have seen today.  It is also manifest in activities that are undertaken by designated terrorist groups in Afghanistan every day,” Akbaruddin said.

He said that a well-connected Afghanistan will be economically vibrant, prosperous and politically stable, Catch News reported.

Emphasising the need to replace the connectivity that terror networks have established, he said “Afghanistan’s National Unity Government has India’s full support for strengthening its defense capabilities to fight terrorism directed against it. We believe that the path to reconciliation in Afghanistan should be through an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned process in adherence to the internationally accepted red lines, reflecting the aspirations of the people of Afghanistan.”

As a message to Pakistan, Akbaruddin cited a quote from Rumi “What you sow will bear fruit. If you have any sense my friend, don’t plant anything but peace,” ANI reported.
