From past decades, dengue cases have increased drastically not only that but the mosquito-borne disease has taken many lives.
The viral infection has caused 390 million cases worldwide each year and even this year in India, cases of dengue in Bengaluru from January to June was 531 as per data by Government of Karnataka’s Health and Family Welfare services.
The main transmitter of the viruses that cause dengue is the Aedes aegypti mosquito. However, the viruses then passed on to humans after getting bitten by female Aedes mosquito.
Dengue has become very concerning and to deal with it, it’s important to be aware of it.
Dengue Symptoms
The flu sings that last for 2-7 days should not be ignored. Dengue fever occurs after a period of 4-10 days after the infected mosquito bite. The fever usually lasts for 4 days and the High Fever 40°C/ 104°F occurs with different symptoms.
The disease can also be suffered without any visible symptoms for a few days and that can even be more dangerous.
The virus circulates in the blood of an infected person for 2-7 days while the patient also has a fever. As per WHO, the patients already infected with the dengue virus can transmit the infection via Aedes mosquitoes after the first symptoms appear.
Dengue Warning signs
- Severe abdominal pain
- Persistent vomiting
- Bleeding gums
- Vomiting blood
- Rapid breathing
- Fatigue/ restlessness
Apart from this, sever dengue warnings
Severe plasma leakage resulting in one or both of the following:
- Shock
- Fluid accumulation with respiratory distress
- Severe bleeding as evaluated by a clinician
- Severe organ involvement
- Hepatic (involving the liver): AST or ALT level > 1000 U/L
- Neurologic (involving the central nervous system): impaired consciousness
- Myocardial (involving the heart) and other organs
