Chhattisgarh is due to see assembly elections this year in December. Political parties have geared up and have started preparations for the battle. Having less than five months left for the assembly election, it is very normal to see the state getting painted in political colours. The surprise is to see the officers in political shades. Yes, you heard that right. Few officers from Chhattisgarh’s police department and the administrative department are all prepared to jump into the battleground. For this, they didn’t hesitate to resign from their jobs.
Three officers from police department have resigned from their jobs to join Congress in the 2018 Chhattisgarh assembly elections. DSP Vibhor Singh, DSP Girja Shankar Jauhri, DSP Kismatlal Nand are the names from the police department who have resigned and expecting tickets from Congress for the elections. On the other hands, three retired officers from the administrative departments have joined Bharti ya Janata Party (BJP).
This is not the first time in Chhattisgarh when someone from public service departments have resigned job to contest elections. Before this during 2013 assembly elections in Chhattisgarh, another DSP from police department had resigned from the job to contest elections on the tickets of Congress party and had won. Later DSP R.K. Rai had a split with Congress and he joined Ajit Jogi’s party.
Three former officers from the administrative departments are retired IAS officers who will be claiming seats from Korba Vidhan Sabha, Dharsinwa Vidhan Sabha and Dantewada/Sukmarespectively on the tickets of Bhartiya Janata Party.
Although, following the footsteps of DSP RK Rai the three officers have resigned but the resignation is yet to be accepted. According to Police headquarters’ information, the resignation letters are under consideration with their range IG.
