This overwhelming response is a testament to the film’s popularity, following the unexpected success of its predecessor, Stree (2018). The advance bookings for Stree 2 have already outpaced the opening day numbers of previous Shraddha Kapoor hits like Baaghi and Street Dancer 3D. Initially, Vedaa led the advance booking race against Khel Khel Mein, but momentum has shifted. Despite its star-studded cast, Khel Khel Mein—featuring Akshay Kumar, Fardeen Khan, and Taapsee Pannu—has managed to sell only slightly more, with ₹59.50 lakh in advance bookings.
The underwhelming advance sales for Vedaa may be due to the recent controversies surrounding the film, including significant cuts mandated by the revising committee, which could have dampened audience enthusiasm. Directed by Nikkhil Advani, the film features John Abraham as a court-martialed Army officer aiding Sharvari’s character against a repressive system. Despite its gripping plot, the film has struggled to generate the same buzz as its competitors.
The Stree Cinematic Universe: Expanding Horizons
The success of Stree 2 is not just a victory for the film itself but also a boost for Dinesh Vijan’s growing horror-comedy universe. This franchise, which began with Stree and continued with Bhediya starring Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon, is set to expand further.
