Bengaluru’s Yellow Line Metro: Bengaluru’s long awaited Yellow Line of the Namma Metro is finally getting close to opening. After a lot of delays and missed deadlines, this metro stretch from RV Road to Bommasandra is now going through its final inspection. The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) has started checking the entire 19.15 km line to see if everything is safe and ready. These checks began on July 22 and ended on July 25.
Officials looked at every part of the line from the tracks to stations, signals, and even the control center at Baiyappanahalli. Once the CMRS shares their final report, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) will take the next steps to fix anything that needs to be corrected before they can open it for the public.

A top BMRCL officer said the full inspection would be done in about three to four days. The decision on which stations will open at first will depend on what the CMRS says in their report.
They inspected all areas including station safety, how trains will be managed, and if the line is fit for travel. Since this line has already missed its earlier deadline in 2021, the successful completion of these safety checks now brings real hope that metro trains could start running on this route by mid-August.
Only Few Trains are Launching for now
When the Yellow Line opens, BMRCL plans to run it with just three train sets. These will run from 5 am to 11 pm, with one train coming every 20 minutes. This will allow for about 30 to 40 full round trips each day. Around 25,000 people are expected to use it daily. But once more trains get added there are 15 train sets planned in total the daily number of riders could grow a lot, even up to 1.5 lakh people.
To avoid big crowds at the start, BMRCL may only allow entry from a few gates at busy stations. They know three trains won’t be enough, but they say they’ll increase the service slowly. A fourth train is also coming soon, expected in Bengaluru by August 10. But it needs testing for two weeks before joining service. If that train comes after the metro starts running, then its tests will be done at night so it doesn’t disturb daytime travel. That might also delay its entry.
Importance of Metro
This metro line is super important for Bengaluru, especially the south side of the city. It connects many busy areas like BTM Layout, HSR Layout, Bommanahalli, Electronic City, and Bommasandra.
These places are full of IT offices, companies like Infosys and Biocon, and large neighborhoods. The Yellow Line will help people skip long traffic jams, especially near Silk Board. It also links up with the Green Line at RV Road, and in future, it will connect to the Pink Line at Jayadeva Hospital and the Blue Line at Central Silk Board.
Even though this is good news, some people are not happy about the long wait. Bengaluru Central MP PC Mohan said the inspection started way too late.
according to ETV Bharat, he said, “CMRS inspection of the Yellow Line began three years after BMRCL missed its 2021 deadline. With 16 stations from RV Road to Bommasandra, it is crucial for ORR commuters but 10 MDs in 22 years slowed progress. Namma Metro deserves steady hands, not shifting chairs.”

Metro Expansion Plans Moving Ahead
While everyone waits for the Yellow Line to open, BMRCL is already working on the next phase of metro growth. They are talking to locals and holding meetings about Phase-3. This includes new lines from JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura Cross and from Hosahalli to Kadabagere Cross. These plans will need some trees to be cut, but after rechecking, the number went down from 11,000 to around 6,700.
