Delhi Metro Advisory August 15, 2026: As India celebrates its 80th Independence Day, Delhi Metro services will remain operational on Saturday, August 15, 2026. However, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced a special early-morning schedule to facilitate the movement of special guests, invitees and members of the public travelling to the Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort.
According to the latest DMRC advisory, Metro services will begin at 4:00 AM from all terminal stations across the network. Trains will run at a 30-minute frequency on all lines until regular revenue services begin according to the scheduled timetable for the day.
Will Delhi Metro Close Early on August 15?
There is no special network-wide early closure announced in the latest DMRC advisory. After the special early-morning operation, services are to follow the scheduled timetable for August 15.
Passengers travelling late at night should nevertheless check the DMRC journey planner or station-specific information before starting their trip because the last-train time varies by line, terminal and interchange.
Will All Delhi Metro Lines Be Open?
Yes. The special 4 AM service is planned across all DMRC lines from their respective terminal stations. The 2026 advisory does not announce a blanket closure of any Delhi Metro line or a network-wide shutdown for August 15. The special arrangement is designed to increase connectivity during the Independence Day celebrations.
The three stations closest to the Red Fort are:
- Lal Quila
- Jama Masjid
- Delhi Gate
These stations are expected to see significant passenger movement because of their proximity to the Independence Day venue.
Delhi Metro Advisory August 15, 2026: Frequency
Between 4 AM and the start of regular revenue services, trains will operate at a 30-minute frequency on all lines.
This means passengers should not expect the normal peak-hour frequency during the 4 AM–6 AM window. After regular services begin, trains will operate according to the day’s scheduled timetable.

Special QR Tickets for Independence Day Invitees
DMRC has made a special arrangement for people officially invited to the Independence Day ceremony. The corporation has supplied 1.30 lakh special pre-vended QR tickets to the Ministry of Defence for special guests and bona fide invitees. People carrying valid physical admit cards issued by the Ministry of Defence will also be provided special QR tickets at designated Metro stations.
The travel cost associated with these special QR tickets will be reimbursed to DMRC by the Ministry of Defence.
Are the Special QR Tickets Free for Everyone?
No. The 1.30 lakh special QR tickets are an arrangement for special guests and bona fide invitees attending the official Independence Day ceremony.
Ordinary commuters should continue to use the normal ticketing options available for Delhi Metro travel. The special QR-ticket arrangement should not be interpreted as a free Metro travel announcement for the general public.
Delhi Traffic Restrictions on August 15
The early Metro service comes alongside major road restrictions. According to the latest traffic advisory, several roads around the Red Fort are scheduled to be closed to general traffic between 4 AM and 10 AM. These include stretches of Netaji Subhash Marg, Lothian Road, SP Mukherjee Marg, Chandni Chowk Road, Nishad Raj Marg and other important routes.
