With the clock striking the New Year midnight, Prakash Raj’s announced his entry to politics. The actor-director wished everyone happy new year while announcing his candidature for the upcoming parliamentary elections. The Quinquagenarian has decided to go as an Independent candidate. He ended his tweet with a slogan, “Ab ki baar Janatha ki SARKAR”.

Raj has been severely critical of the current regime of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In May last year, he started a series of questions under a hashtag just asking.

He had claimed in May 2018 that since he started criticizing PM Modi and the Bhartiya Janata Party, the Bollywood has stopped offering him with any roles.

Raj has over the last several months pointed out various issues with regards to the current ruling government.

Regarding Demonetisation he had said, “Demonetisation has hit the people hard and many have lost their jobs. The Goods and Service Tax (GST) introduced was only to loot the common people.”

He had also taken a jibe at the Prime Minister on the promise of providing two crore jobs, “What happened to the promise made by you, to generate two crore jobs and bring back the black money stashed in foreign banks? Why are income tax raids continuing even after demonetisation? Why is cash not available in ATMs? You are talking about rooting out corruption.”

It is yet to be seen if parties like JDS and Congress approach and provide their support to Raj.
