A moving video clip has surfaced online showing an Israeli television news anchor getting tearful reporting her own show’s sudden cancellation on air. The anchor tried hard to control her emotions after learning that it would be her last show on Israel’s Channel One.
The government has suddenly decided to shut the channel down. The video is of the exact moment when she finds out the bitter truth.”We are now getting breaking news, a statement in Parliament… Actually, tonight will be our last news programme. This is our last edition,” she said. “So the rest of this programme is irrelevant,” she continued.
“And at the end of the day a lot of people are going to lose their jobs. I hope they find new jobs and public broadcasting continues to be strong. And if it exists in a different format,” she added.
The video posted on Facebook has gone viral now. Reportedly, staff of the television channel was aware of the government’s plans, but were not expecting it to be shut down so abruptly.
