Angarki Chaturthi or Sankasthi Chaturthi is an auspicious day celebrated in every Lunar month or Hindu calendar month on the fourth day of Krishna Paksha. Of all the Sankasthi Ganesha Chaturthi days, Angarki Chaturthi is considered to be the most auspicious. In the current lunar month, Sankashti Chaturthi falls on Tuesday, September 17, 2019.

Significance behind Angarki Chaturthi

As per the legends, Angarak the son of Mother Earth and sage Bharadwaj was a great rishi and ardent devotee of Lord Ganesha. Seeking Ganesha’s blessings, he worshipped the Lord for a considerable amount of time and on Magh Krishna Chaturthi (the day was Tuesday), Lord Ganesha blessed him and asked for his wish.

Rishi Angarak said that his only wish was to be associated with Lord Ganesha’s name forever. The Lord granted his wish and said that whosoever will worship Lord Ganesha on Angarika Chaturthi will be granted all the prayers.
