Apara Ekadashi this year is observed on May 30. On this day, devotees observe fast and pray to Lord Vishnu. The auspicious day falls on the eleventh day of Krishna Paksha in the Jyeshtha month.   The day is also known as Hari Vasara. The word ‘apsara’ means limitless and that’s the reason it is said that those who observe fast on this day and pray to Lord Vishnu, get limitless blessings from the Lord.

The auspicious day of Apara Ekadashi is observed generally in June-July but this year it falls in May. The Devotees will observe the fast from May 30 and will break it on the morning of May 31.

Shubh Muhurat

According to Drik Panchang, Apara Ekadashi tithi will begin on May 29 at 3 pm. Here are the tithi and Parana time details:

Ekadashi Tithi Begins – 03:21 PM on May 29, 2019

Ekadashi Tithi Ends – 04:38 PM on May 30, 2019

Parana Time – May 31, 05:28 AM to 08:12 AM

Parana Day Dwadashi End Timing – May 31, 05:17 PM

Significance of the day

It is been said that Lord Krishna for the first explained the importance of fasting in Apara Ekadashi to Yudhishthira, the eldest son of King Pandu. It has been written in the Hindu epic Mahabharata. Lord Krishna also told him that observing fast on this day would bring good fortune, wealth, prosperity and popularity. Since then, it is believed that observing a fast on Apara Ekadashi would get devotees good fortune.

Puja Vidhi

The fast of Apara Ekadashi is begun by waking up before sunrise and taking a bath. After it, pray to Lord Vishnu by lighting a Diya and offer flowers, tulsi leaves and dhoop to the Lord.

Spend the rest of the day in prayers and singing bhajans. Anything giving by anyone should not be eaten to ensure the sanctity of the fast remains. The fast can will end during the Parana timings on the next day.
