Apple’s Rumored MacBook Ultra:Apple could soon bump its MacBook lineup up to a totally new tier. Several reports from “trusted” industry people and Apple centered publications, are hinting that Apple is looking at some premium “MacBook Ultra” model. It would land above the current MacBook Pro in performance and in price too.

Apple still hasn’t officially confirmed anything but fresh leaks are pointing to a rumored laptop that might come with an OLED touchscreen, a more slender chassis, better M-series chips and maybe even cellular connectivity. If all of that is real, then it would end up being the most powerful and most expensive MacBook Apple has ever made.

What Is the Rumored MacBook Ultra?

According to reports from Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, Apple is planning a new ultra-premium laptop tier called the “MacBook Ultra.” The machine is expected to sit above the current MacBook Pro lineup, much like the company’s “Ultra” branding used in chips such as the M3 Ultra and M5 Ultra.

The biggest shift could be Apple positioning the MacBook Ultra as a hybrid between a professional workstation and a futuristic productivity device.

Reports claim Apple wants this machine to offer an “entirely new feature set” compared to existing MacBooks.

Apple’s Rumored MacBook Ultra: Expected Features

OLED Touchscreen Display

One of the most talked-about upgrades is a tandem OLED display with touch support. This would mark a major departure from Apple’s long-standing resistance to touchscreen Macs.

The touchscreen support could also blur the line between the Mac and the iPad Pro.

Design

The MacBook Ultra is rumored to feature a significantly thinner chassis than current MacBook Pro models. Some reports compare Apple’s strategy to redesigning the laptop around portability without sacrificing power.

Still, some analysts seem to think there will be trade-offs such as weaker thermal behavior or needing a bigger battery depending on how hard Apple chases slimness.

Next Generation M6 Pro And M6 Max Chips

The device is expected to land with Apple’s upcoming M6 Pro and M6 Max processors, allegedly made using TSMC’s latest 2nm process architecture.

Right now, current MacBook Pro lineups already ship with strong M5 Pro and M5 Max chips that can deliver around 30% quicker CPU performance than older generations, at least according to previous claims. The rumored MacBook Ultra could stretch that gains even more beyond what we’ve seen so far

Other leaks add features like:

  • A Dynamic Island type cutout, swapping out the older notch
  • Built in 5G connectivity
  • Apple’s own modem integration

If even half of this turns out to be true, the MacBook Ultra might end up being Apple’s most futuristic laptop yet, even if it comes with compromises people will notice later.

When Could Apple Launch the MacBook Ultra?

Early rumors suggested a late 2026 launch. However, more recent reports claim Apple may delay the device until early 2027 because of global memory and RAM supply constraints.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reportedly believes supply chain issues are one of the major reasons behind the possible delay.

Price

The MacBook Ultra may carry a significantly higher price tag than today’s MacBook Pro models.

According to industry estimates:

  • 14-inch MacBook Ultra could start around $2,499
  • 16-inch version may start near $2,999

That would place it roughly 20% above existing premium MacBook Pro pricing.

Fully configured variants with higher RAM and storage could potentially cross the $5,000 mark.

Will It Replace the MacBook Pro?

Current reports suggest the MacBook Ultra won’t fully replace the MacBook Pro. It sounds more and more like Apple may just frame it as an extra premium tier for power users creators, AI developers and other professionals who actually need maximum performance.
