Arnab Goswami booked for promoting social disharmony, defamation

At least two FIRs have been filed against the Republic TV’s channel head Arnab Goswami for promoting enmity and derogatory remarks against Congress President Sonia Gandhi of orchestrating the Palghar lynching.

Goswami has been facing the flak for his controversial statements regarding the Congress President which he made during a program on Palghar lynching case on Republic TV.

The Nagpur police have booked Goswami under section 153, 153-A, 153-B, 295A, 298, 500, 504, 505(2), 506, 120-B and 117 of the Indian Penal Code.

Three Mumbai residents, including two sadhus, who were on their way to Silvassa on A[pril 16 were mob lynched in Gadakchinachale village of Palghar district on the suspicion that they received a complaint which was turned into an FIR at Sadar police station.

DCP Vinita Sahu said that Arnab has been booked under sections 117 ( abetting commission of the offence by the public or by more than 10 persons) 120 B ( criminal conspiracy) 153 A, 153 B, 295 (A) (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) 290 A, 500 (defamation) 504, 506. Another FIR was filed against him in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

T.S.Singh Deo tweeted that he had filed a complaint against Goswami in Raipur for deliberately making inflammatory statements on his channel to invoke hatred among different communities and using derogatory language against Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
