Assam govt transfers Rs 2000 each to 1.6 lakh people stranded in other states

Assam has conducted 7200 COVID- 19 tests in the state so far and only 5 percent of people have been tested positive.

The Assam government has deposited Rs 2000 to each 1.6 lakh people who are stranded outside the state under the Assam cares initiative.

“Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal took the decision to provide financial assistance to needy people stranded outside, during a review meeting. Those who received the payment will get another installment before the lockdown ends,” Assam’s Finance and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

Senior officials said that 5 lakh 90 thousand people have responded to the Assam Cares initiative. Out of these, 1.6 lakh people after verification received the incentive so far.

Apart from that, 758 cancer, heart, and kidney patients who are stranded outside the state due to lockdown have also been given 25 thousand rupees each.
