Best of 2020: Top 10 most popular cars in India

This year was unprecedented in many ways for the auto sector too, as the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world, the auto was one of the most affected sectors by it.  Unlike previous years this year saw the announcement of fewer cars in India and obviously, fewer people bought those cars. The auto sector is now up but is still a long way from normal.

The year 2020 is now at the brink of the end, so here are we counting the top 10 cars in the auto sector during this year in India.

This year was unprecedented in many ways for the auto sector too, as the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world, the auto was one of the most affected sectors by it.  Unlike previous years this year saw the announcement of fewer cars in India and obviously, fewer people bought those cars. The auto sector is now up but is still a long way from normal.

The sales figures of post lockdown are positive and point towards an obvious cautious approach being adopted by the major automobile manufacturers in India.

But moving ahead on the positive note here is the Top 10 Cars in India during 2020:

Nissan Magnite:

Priced at INR 4.99-9.97 lakh in New Delhi. Nissan released this absolute beauty in December and is available in five Variants XE, XL, XV, XV Premium, and XV Premium (O). Nissan Magnite price makes it the most affordable sub-4-meter SUV in India. It is available with a 1.0-liter turbo-petrol engine along with a 1.0-liter three-cylinder naturally aspirated motor.

Kia Sonet:

Priced at INR 6.71-12.99 lakh in New Delhi.  This is the sub-4m SUV available in six variants: HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX, HTX+, and GTX+. The transmission options on offer are a 6-speed iMT (clutchless manual) and a 7-speed DCT with the 1.0-liter turbo-petrol, a 5-speed MT with the 1.2-liter petrol, and a 6-speed MT or AT with the 1.5-liter diesel engine.

Mahindra Thar:

Priced at INR 9.80-13.75 lakh in New Delhi. It is sold in three variants: AX, AX (O), and LX. The new Thar is offered with both petrol and diesel engines. While the petrol engine is a new 2.0-liter turbocharged unit good for 150PS and 300Nm (MT)/320Nm (AT), the diesel engine is a 2.2-liter unit that produces 130PS and 300Nm.

Cars Top 10 India 2020

Kia Seltos:

Priced at INR 9.89-17.34 lakh in New Delhi. The compact SUV is available in two trims: Tech Line and GT Line. The Tech Line is available in five variants — HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX, and HTX+. Kia Seltos comes with three engine options: 1.5-liter petrol, 1.4-liter turbocharged petrol, and 1.5-liter diesel. While the 1.5-liter petrol motor is good for 115PS/144Nm, the diesel engine develops 115PS/250Nm.

Hyundai i20:

Priced at INR 6.79-11.32 lakh in New Delhi. Hyundai i20 is available in four variants: Magna, Sportz, Asta, and Asta (O). The new i20 comes with the same three engines as the Venue: two petrol and diesel. The first petrol unit is a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated engine that puts out 83PS and 114Nm and the second is 1.0-liter turbo petrol, in 120PS/172Nm tune.

Maruti Swift:

Priced at INR 5.19-8.02 lakh in New Delhi.  It comes in four variants: L, V, Z and Z+.  It is powered by a BS6 1.2-liter petrol unit that churns out 83PS of power and 113Nm of torque. It comes with the option of a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT gearbox.

Hyundai Creta:

Priced at INR 9.81-17.31 lakh in New Delhi. Hyundai Creta is available in five variants: E, EX, S, SX, and SX(O). The Hyundai SUV shares its BS6 engines with the Kia Seltos: a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol (115PS/144Nm), a 1.5-litre diesel (115PS/250Nm), and a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol (140PS/242Nm). A 6-speed manual transmission is offered as standard with the 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines.

Hyundai Venue:

Priced at INR 6.75-11.65 lakh in New Delhi. Hyundai Venue is sold in six variants: E, S, S+, SX, SX+, and SX (O). Hyundai offers its sub-4m SUV with a choice of three BS6 engine options: two petrol and one diesel. The 1.2-litre petrol engine is mated to a 5-speed manual and has an output of 83PS/114Nm. It is offered only on the E, S and S+ variants of the Venue.

Is the Hyundai Venue more fuel efficient than its rivals?

Tata Altroz:

Priced at INR 5.44-8.95 lakh in New Delhi. The premium hatchback is available in six variants: XE, XM, XM+, XT, XZ, and XZ (O).  It comes with two engine options: a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5-liter diesel. The petrol engine develops 86PS/113Nm while the diesel puts out 90PS/200Nm. Both engines are offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Maruti Vitara Brezza:

Maruti Suzuki Becomes First Automaker In India To Produce 2 Crore Cars

Priced at INR 7.34-11.40 lakh in New Delhi. The Brezza is available in four variants: LXi, VXi, ZXi, and ZXi+. While the pre-facelift Vitara Brezza was offered with a diesel engine, the facelifted SUV comes with a BS6-compliant 1.5-litre petrol unit. This new engine puts out 105PS of power and 138Nm of torque. It comes mated to either a 5-speed manual transmission option or a 4-speed AT gearbox.
