BJP activist arrested for hosting cow urine consumption event to fight COVID-19 after Kolkata man falls ill

Kolkata Police has arrested a BJP worker who organized a cow urine intake program to protect against coronavirus. A BJP worker named Narayan Chatterjee in the Jorasakho area of North Kolkata organized a cow worship program and distributed cow urine at a gaushala on Monday. He claimed that the coronavirus could be avoided by consuming cow urine and that people already infected would also recover from it. However, one volunteer fell ill after consuming the urine. Police said that the BJP worker was arrested late Tuesday on the complaint of the victim.

According to police officials, 40-year-old Narayan Chatterjee had mentioned its ‘miraculous’ qualities while giving cow urine to others. A civilian volunteer posted near Goshala also consumed cow urine and fell ill on Tuesday, after which he lodged a police complaint against Chatterjee. After which he was arrested.

The state BJP leadership has condemned the state government over Chatterjee’s arrest. State BJP general secretary Sayantan Basu said, “Chatterjee distributed cow urine but did not ask people to drink it fraudulently. When he distributed it, he clearly stated that it is cow urine, he did not force anyone to drink it. It is not proven whether it is harmful or not. ” He said, “How can the police arrest them without any reason.” It is completely undemocratic. “

The BJP chief Dilip Ghosh of West Bengal unit said that there is no loss in urine drinking and no remorse for them to accept that they are shifting. His party’s MP Lockett Chatterjee, however, did not agree with Ghosh’s opinion and called for the closure, terming it as ‘unscientific recognition’. The distribution of cow urine as a treatment for the coronavirus was strongly criticized by the ruling Trinamool Congress and the opposition Congress.

Recently the Cow Urine Party was organized by the All India Hindu Mahasabha in Delhi. Around 200 people attended the party and drank cow urine.
