BJP's Hans Raj Hans ineligible to contest from reserved North-West Delhi, converted to Islam: AAP

Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday alleged that Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Hans Raj Hans, is “ineligible” to fight from North-West Delhi in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls as that constituency is a reserved seat.

In a press conference held today, the party said that the North West Delhi is a reserved seat and the BJP candidate doesn’t come from the category as he converted to Islam in 2014. The party further accused Hans Raj of violating Election Commission (EC) rules and concealing information. BJP candidate from North West Delhi Hans Raj Hans “deliberately concealed information from the Election Commission”, said AAP.

“As per EC guidelines, North West Delhi is a reserved seat. But BJP’s Hans Raj Hans doesn’t come from reserved category as he has already converted into Islam in 2014 . He deliberately concealed this information from EC. This complete violation of EC rules”.

Reacting on the claims, Ravindra Gupta, the head of Delhi BJP’s media committee for the Lok Sabha polls, said, “They have lost mental balance sensing their defeat in the Lok Sabha election. With people deserting them, they are trying all sorts of propaganda to remain in the news.”

The Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) on April 23 announced that Punjabi Sufi singer Hans Raj Hans will be party’s candidate from the North-West Delhi constituency.

Hans had joined the BJP in December 2016 after resigning from the Congress party in 2014. He was also a member of the Shiromani Akali Dal in Punjab and had also contested the election from the Jalandhar constituency in 2009.

Hans Raj Hans has replaced Udit Raj who is the sitting MP from the North-West Delhi constituency.
