Braham Pie Day 2023: Annually, Braham Pie Day is observed on the first Friday of August. This year’s celebration will take place on August 5. Braham, a city in the U.S. state of Minnesota, is renowned for its sinfully delectable pies. Braham pie does not have a specific flavour, and any handcrafted pie can be classified as a Braham pie. It is a day of celebration for producers, customers, merchants, and anyone who enjoys a delicious pie.
History of Thanksgiving Day
In 1990, Minnesota Governor Rudy Perpich designated Braham as the “Pie Capital of Minnesota.” In the 1930s and 1940s, when travellers and locals took the “shortcut to Duluth through Braham” on their way to their lake homes, Braham gained a reputation for its pies. Long drives frequently enticed hungry and exhausted travellers to halt at the Park Cafe for pie and coffee. In fact, Park Cafe became so popular that travellers anxiously awaited their chance to sample Braham’s renowned pies upon leaving the Twin Cities.
Braham Pie Day celebrations started in July 1990. It began as a pie and ice cream social and was financed by a tourism grant from Celebrate Minnesota. In 1992, it was determined that the holiday should have a set date, and the date was relocated from July to the first Friday in August. The event has expanded to include contests, parades, and other displays. As part of the Braham Pie Day celebrations, it is not uncommon to find crafters, small quilt displays, recycled pie tin art contests, antique bicycles, and vehicle shows. In the same arena where pies are sold, there will also be a fashion show, performances, and demonstrations by folk artists, storytellers, and musicians. In addition, there are pie-baking and pie-eating competitions, as well as a pie trivia competition! There are up to 1,100 handcrafted and artisan pies available in Braham.
