11:20 PM | Congress has released the first list of 40 party candidates for Assam assembly polls.

Dinesh Trivedi, who had resigned from his Rajya Sabha seat in February this year is set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The saffron party is also set to hold a press conference on the same today at nearly 12:00 pm. Trivedi had resigned saying he felt suffocated in the party which is “no longer in hands of” its supremo Mamata Banerjee. His resignation came two days after he had endorsed Prime Minister Modi’s speech in Lok Sabha


Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Kevadia Saturday morning to address the Combined Commanders” Conference, a brainstorming meet of top military officials being held in the vicinity of the Statue of Unity.

After landing at Ahmedabad airport, Modi left for Kevadia, which is around 200 km from the state capital.

Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama was administered the first dose of anti-coronavirus vaccine at Zonal Hospital here on Saturday morning.

The Dalai Lama’s office thanked the the Government of India and the Himachal Pradesh dispensation for facilitating the first dose of the vaccine for the spiritual leader.

India’s COVID-19 tally rose to 1,11,92,088 with over 18,000 fresh cases being reported in a span of 24 hours in the country after 36 days, while active cases registered an increase for the fourth consecutive day on Saturday and were recorded at 1,80,304, according to the Union Health Ministry.

The death toll reached 1,57,656 with 108 more fatalities, while a total of 18,327 new cases were registered in a day, the ministry’s data showed.

On January 29, 18,855 new infections were recorded in a span of 24 hours after which the daily rise in fresh cases remained below 18,000.

President Ram Nath Kovind arrived here on Saturday as part of his two-day visit to Madhya Pradesh, an official said.

The president is scheduled to inaugurate the All India State Judicial Academies Directors”s Retreat at a function to be held at Manas Bhawan in the city before noon, he said.

On his arrival at Dumna Airport here, Kovind was accorded a warm welcome by Madhya Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the official said.
