The pattern of killings led to the suspicion of involvement of a serial killer, but Sagar police officials on Thursday said it was a matter of investigation and too early to jump to any conclusion.
A case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was registered against the accused on Monday evening, they said.
The principal had summoned the girl to the student earlier in the day telling her that she had to fill a form.
The victim, Kajal Umrao Kukde, was found dead with her throat slit in the isolated area of Suradevi near the city on Friday, an official said.
On Monday evening, Gaurav went to his in-law’s house and fired a round targeting his mother-in-law but she had a narrow escape, he said.
The incident took place at a village under Birni police station area on Thursday afternoon. However, the accused identified as Mikku Mandal, 35, has gone missing after the incident, police said.

The matter came to the fore on Tuesday when the body of a child was recovered from a secluded place in a village in Hussainganj area, Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajesh Kumar Singh said.
The police have arrested the 34-year-old accused for the crime that took place on Thursday, senior inspector C R Kakade of Bhiwandi town police station said.
The 19-year-old victim in her complaint has said she was raped on June 26 and the accused also made another attempt on July 3
Shivani Meena (19), her lover Atul Meena (20), and three assailants — Lalit Meena (21), Vishnu Bheel (21) and Vijay Mali (21) — were arrested on Thursday evening, they said.
Following the incident, the accused was assaulted by some locals and is currently in a hospital, they said.
The accused has been identified as Maan Singh, a resident of Kaushambi district in Uttar Pradesh, they said.
The incident took place on Monday at 9 Block in Trilokpuri, a senior police officer said.
According to the police, the accused misbehaved with the girl after seeing her alone. On inquiry, the mother of the victim said that a man had sexually assaulted her daughter.
Surendra Sharma was apprehended on Sunday after the hitmen, whom he had paid Rs 20 lakh for the ”honour killing”, spilled the beans, said Pramod Kumar, SP, City (East) of Patna.
Singh said the three accused have been identified as Sonu alias Salman, Shavez and Alijan and are presently being interrogated.
According to the complaint lodged by the victims’ father, the accused overpowered his daughters on June 30 when they were out to attend nature’s call.
While the owner of the house was found hanging in a room, the other four members were spotted lying on the ground suspected to have consumed some poisonous substance.
The woman alleged that the man continued to sexually abuse her. He also took her to an unknown place in Deoband, where he kept her hostage, and three other men, all aged 25-30 years, gang-raped her.
The police rushed to the village after being informed about the killing and sent the victim’s body to a government hospital for post-mortem, he said.
