A meeting of the Congress Legislature Party was held on Saturday evening to deliberate on strategy for further course of action. The meeting was presided over by Congress general secretary in charge Avinash Pande.
Soren is currently riding out a political storm which has been whipped up after the Election Commission sent a report to the Governor of Jharkhand which is believed to have recommended his disqualification as an MLA as a mining lease given to him was renewed during his tenure as the state’s chief minister.
The state chief had called a meeting on Friday of the MLAs of the UPA coalition at his residence in Ranchi. State Congress President Rajesh Thakur confirmed the details and said that the meeting comes amid the recent political developments in the state.
The legislators of the ruling JMM-Congress-RJD coalition, who had held marathon meetings on Friday morning and evening, will again meet around 11 AM on Saturday to chalk out further strategies.
Nishikant Dubey asserted that Assembly should be dissolved and fresh elections should be conducted.
The ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), as part of the UPA alliance, exuded confidence that Soren will remain as the chief minister till 2024. The party also said it will move the Supreme Court if Soren is disqualified as an MLA.
Governor Ramesh Bais is expected to make the report public shortly.
The Enforcement Directorate raided various places in Jharkhand and several other states on Wednesday and recovered the rifles from a house here as part of an ongoing money-laundering investigation into alleged illegal mining in the state.
