Chandigarh: Family calls police, threatens to commit suicide over lack of food

To further worsen the matter there is a migrant crisis that needs attention

The Chandigarh Police on Saturday has come forward to help a family which ran out of food due to lockdown in the city and further threatened to commit suicide, an official statement said.

As per the information to media, the Police said they had received a distress call from a woman saying she, along with her husband and a sick child, will commit suicide as they do not have any mean to buy food and medicines, it said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Dilsher Singh, along with area station house officer, rushed to the family’s residence in Maulijagran and gave them food and some money, it said

India on a whole is severely being impacted due to the countrywide lockdown, the overall deaths and infections soaring both high at 1000 and 25.

To further worsen the matter there is a migrant crisis that needs attention. Migrant workers in many metropolitan cities have started going to their homes on foot since transportation services have been curbed by the Union Govt. The centre have allotted relief funds for these workers but still the workers are not reassured of the assistance.
