On the occasions of Navratri, Jayalalithaa ‘Golu’ dolls were introduced this year and it has garnered huge the interests of the people in the southern state. “We’ve introduced Jayalalithaa golu deity dolls this year. People are have welcomed this,” Kanagavalli, a doll merchant, told Thanthi TV.

An arrangement of colorful dolls resembling the former chief minister of Tamil Nadu, Jayalalithaa can be seen on display on the streets of the state.

Ever since the demise of Jayalalithaa, life in Tamil Nadu hasn’t been the same. The state mourned for days and bid goodbye to their beloved Amma. She was honoured with a state funeral. Months of political turmoil have followed and are still ongoing.

Navratri is a Hindu festival dedicated to the nine avatars of the deity Durga.
