The Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Tuesday in the meeting with LG Anil Baijlal stressed about the alarming rise in the number of coronavirus cases in the city.

He, however, stressed that the national capital will need around 80,000 beds by July end while adding that there will be 5.5 lakh expected coronavirus cases in Delhi by the end of July.

“Officers of Central Government were present at the meeting and they said that there is no community spread in Delhi as of now so it need not be discussed,” news agency ANI quoted Sisodia as saying.

By 15 June, there’ll be 44,000 cases and 6,600 beds will be needed. By 30 June we’ll reach 1 lakh cases & 15,000 beds will be required.

By 15 July there’ll be 2.25 lakh cases & 33,000 beds will be needed. By 31 July, 5.5 lakh cases expected & 80,000 beds will be needed: Delhi Dy CM Manish Sisodia

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain Tuesday said the source of the coronavirus infection was unknown in 50 per cent cases in the national capital, but added it was up to the Centre to declare whether the city was witnessing the community spread of the disease. At the same time, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said he had spoken to officers from the central government, who said there was no community spread of the disease. Sisodia also said the government was expecting 5.5 lakh Covid-19 cases by July 31.

Confirmed Covid-19 cases in India stand at 2,66,598 with the highest single-day spike of 9987 new coronavirus cases and 331 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to the latest data from state governments.
