Mumbai: A huge number of people were seen at Mumbai’s Kurla Railway Station as the city was put under partial lockdown in view of the rapid spread of the infection in the state. As the city fights with coronavirus, people from other states started leaving in jam-packed trains, posing a higher risk of COVID-19 spread.

People from states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal thronged the railway stations on Saturday in a bid to leave the state due to coronavirus.

The Central government has arranged 14 special trains due to a sudden surge in the number of passengers. However, the trains are still running jam-packed, posing a higher risk of coronavirus spread.

“There are so many people on trains that I didn’t get a seat despite having a confirmed ticket. My parents have asked me to return because of coronavirus,” ANI quoted a passenger, as saying.

Due to a sudden surge in demand for east and north India bound trains, Central Railway will run special unreserved trains for various destinations from Mumbai and Pune on March 20 and 21.

These special services will be operated between Mumbai-Howrah, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus to Gorakhpur, Pune to Howrah, Pune to Balharshah, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus to Manduadih, Pune to Danapur, Nagpur to Santragachi, Mumbai to Patna, Pune to Gorakhpur, and Mumbai to Gorakhpur, a CR release said.
