In some places, the situation has been so much worse affected duet to the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown that people have been compelled to do anything to meet the expense of the family.

Hukumchad Soni, who has been running jewellery shop in Jaipur for 25 years, is selling vegetables these days. Soni explained, “I had a shop in Ramnagar area and that the whole family had to survive. I had no other way but to sell a vegetable to run the house expenses due to lockdown. I didn’t even have too much savings,” Soni said.

At the beginning of the lockdown, the work went on a few weeks but there was no way out now. No food is given when you sit at home. I never imagined that I would have to see these days also, he added.

For the uninitiated, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 39,980 on Sunday, including 28,046 active cases, 10,632, 1 migrated and 1,301 deaths, according to latest update by the Union Health Ministry on its website.

The country recorded 2,644 fresh COVID-19 cases, 83 deaths in the last 24 hours, which is the biggest one-day jump in coronavirus tally and toll in India.

In India, the lockdown was going to take an end on May 3 but it has now extended for two more weeks. Some concessions have been announced for Red, Orange, and Green Zones during this extended lockdown period.
