CPI-ML supporter shot at on Patna’s outskirts

Patna, Nov 5 (IANS) A discussion over Bihar Assembly election results turned ugly in Patna’s Punpun area on Thursday afternoon when a Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) (CPI (ML)) supporter was shot at allegedly by a JD (U) supporter.

An FIR was registered by the police under section 307 (Attempt to Murder) in Punpun police stations against five persons. All the accused are absconding.

The incident happened at when a CPI (ML) supporter Pramod Ravidas claimed about the victory of the Mahagathbandhan in the ongoing Bihar Assembly elections reacting to which JD (U) supporter Chitranjan Kumar abused him.

“As per Ravidas’s statement , on intervention of the local shopkeepers both Ravidas and Chitranjan, left the place at around 11 a.m. Ravidas came back to the spot at 3 p.m. where Chitranjan was already there with four friends. An argument between them started again following which Chitranjan shot three rounds at Ravidas. One of the bullets brushed Ravidas’s neck,” said the Punpun police station SHO Kundan Singh.

In an another development, Sheohar police managed to arrest four people including the son of JD (U) MLA Mohammed Sarfuddin for their alleged involvement in assaulting the family members of Jan Adhikar Party (JAP) candidate Mohammed Wakim Jafir. Both Sarfuddin and Jafir contested elections from Sheohar Assembly constituency.

The accused was angry over JAP candidate who managed to polarise votes of a section of Muslim community which eventually helped RJD candidate Chetan Anand, son of jailed strongman Anand Mohan.
