In an appalling incident, a 65-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by his neighbours over vegetables in the food being distributed to the needy at Sanjay Amar colony in Shahdara on Wednesday.

As per the media reports, the accused neighbour had started fighting with the Bhandara organisers for serving a small portion of vegetables.

The deceased, identified as Santlal, tried to prevent the accused, Nanhe, from fighting with the bhandara organisers.

However, according to the police, Nanhe suddenly picked up a stick and hit him on his head before fleeing. Santlal was taken to a hospital where he died. Police have registered a case of murder and are on the lookout for Nanhe who is absconding.

Police said that Santlal owned an electrical repair shop and his family was depending on the food distribution for their meals after the shop shut for the lockdown. His son claimed that Santlal was concerned that the Bhandara operators would shut down if trouble broke out and intervened while the accused was arguing with the organisers.
