The Delhi High Court has imposed a hefty fine of Rs 10 lakh on Anil Lodhi, General Secretary of Azad Market RWA, for filing pleas with alleged extortion motives related to illegal constructions in the city’s capital.

Lodhi, who was found guilty of impersonation and extortion, faced strict repercussions in the court’s decision.

Justice Mini Pushkarna, overseeing the case, emphasized that while the court is committed to addressing unauthorized constructions strictly, it is also crucial to ensure that the legal system is not misused for personal gains. The court is currently addressing the conduct of Babu Lal Gupta, a lawyer linked with a dubious NGO, Green Gold Earth of World, potentially violating applicable regulations.

This case highlighted the misuse of legal processes under the guise of social work. The court ordered that all future petitions filed by Lodhi or the associated NGO must be scrutinized, as prior cases were often filed using the same lawyer’s chamber as an address. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has already commenced necessary actions regarding the illegal constructions in question.
