NEET-UG Re-Exam: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has asked state chiefs and Union Territory administrators to help make the NEET-UG re-exam smooth and fair. On Monday, May 25, 2026, he wrote to all chief ministers, lieutenant governors and administrators. The exam is set for June 21, 2026. The Education Ministry said he also wanted extra care because the country is facing strong heatwave conditions right now.
In his letter, he asked officials to make sure exam centres have the basic things students need. He said, “In view of the prevailing heatwave conditions, I request you to kindly issue appropriate instructions to the District Authorities and all schools, colleges, universities, and other institutions hosting the examination in your State/UT to ensure the availability of essential basic amenities for the convenience of candidates.” The ministry said these things can include safe drinking water, fans or coolers, clean washrooms, shaded waiting space, electricity and portable toilets where needed.

What Students Should Get at Centres
The minister also said transport should be ready for students on exam day. The idea is simple. Candidates should not suffer because of heat, long waits or poor facilities. The ministry said Pradhan wants the exam to be held in a smooth, transparent and fair way, and that student safety and comfort matter most.
The National Testing Agency has already confirmed the re-exam date. In its FAQ notice, NTA said the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination will be held on June 21, 2026, Sunday, from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM, including formalities. The agency also said candidates get 15 extra minutes for documentation and verification work before the test begins.
Why the Re-Test Is Happening
This re-exam is happening because the earlier NEET-UG paper held on May 3 was cancelled on May 12 after allegations of a paper leak. The matter is being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation. NTA has also said candidates may not get the same centre as before, since centres are allotted again based on the city choice and random selection.
NTA has also told students that no extra fee is needed for the re-exam. It said the medium chosen earlier cannot be changed now, and the new date cannot be shifted either. Candidates who faced problems during the earlier exam were advised to send complaints with proof to the NTA helpdesk.
