An earthquake with magnitude 5.6 Richter Scale jolted Assam Wednesday morning. The tremor was so strong that it was felt across the Northeast including Bihar, West Bengal as well as Bangladesh. According to the locals it lasted for 10 seconds. No loss of life or damage to property has been registered so far.

In West Bengal tremors were felt at multiple places including Siliguri, Malda and Jalpaiguri. The officials said that the epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 174 km at Latitude of 35.6 degree North and Longitude of 76.3 degree East, located 199 km North of Kargil town in the frontier Ladakh region.
According to reports, another moderate tremor was felt in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana today morning between 5 am to 6 am of magnitude 4.6 on the Richter Scale.
