Two days after ‘gau rakshak’ Yogi Adityanath has been sworn in as UP chief minister, several meat shops were set on fire allegedly by Hindutva brigade in Hathras district in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday night, News 18.com reported.

The police have not registered a first information report (FIR) because according to them, no shop owner has filed a formal complaint.

Meanwhile, Moradabad, SSP, had issued a notice to his subordinates asking them to be strict against cattle smuggling and operations of illegal slaughter houses in the state.

“We will register a case if someone lodges complain. A police picket has been deployed in the area to maintain law and order situation,” UP Police said.

In its election campaign, the BJP had promised to take “stern steps to close down all illegal slaughterhouses besides banning mechanised slaughterhouses” if it comes to power.
