Uttar Pradesh, September 02: Hariom, one of the most wanted criminals accused in several cases including the mob lynching of Mohammad Akhlaq four years ago, was arrested after a gunfight with the police in Uttar Pradesh’s Greater Noida early on Monday.

According to the reports  as of now, a countrymade pistol was recovered from his possession. A case under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC and another FIR under the Arms Act have been registered against Hariom in the Jarcha police station.

Out on bail in the Akhlaq case, Hariom is one of the 18 people named in mob lynching in Bisada village in September 2015.

The 55-year-old Akhlaq was killed and his son Danish was seriously injured when a mob of about 200 people attacked their house in Bisada in western Uttar Pradesh on September 28, 2015, on suspicion of consuming beef.

The incident had triggered national outrage, with many pointing to religious intolerance and leading a chain of protests across the country. Many writers, filmmakers and scientists returned their awards in the wake of the incident.
