In yet another case of crime against women, a 53-year-old senior journalist working with a national daily has been booked for sexual harassment following a complaint lodged by his domestic help at DLF Phase-III police station.
The victim worked as a full-time domestic help with the senior journalist. The incident happened at around 1 am on Thursday (July 4) when the 25-year-old domestic help was sleeping in her room at the journalist’s house in Gurugram.
As quoted in a Hindustan Times report, the victim in her statement to the police alleged that her employer molested her but she managed to escape and took shelter at her friend’s house in the same society. She later informed the security staff who helped her approach the police.
The complainant, a native of Odisha, told the police that around 1am she received a call from the suspect’s driver asking her to open the main door. According to the complaint, the accused barged in her room naked. The suspect started touching her inappropriately, but she ran downstairs.
“She said she locked herself in a bathroom. The accused followed her and tried to force the door open. She stayed confined for two hours before sneaking out and seeking help. No one from the suspect’s family was in the house at the time of the incident,” Goel said.
She took refuge at a friend’s place in the same society. She approached the police the next day.
The journalist has not been contacted. Meanwhile a case has been registered under section 354A (sexual harassment). A probe into the case has been initiated.
