Haryana: Two cow smugglers sent to 5-year jail under Gauvansh Sanrakhshan Act

Haryana: Two sent to jail after held guilty under Gauvansh Sanrakhshan Act

Palwal: In a first such conviction under the Gauvansh Sanrakshan Act, two persons were held guilty and ordered a prison sentence by a court in the district.

Palwal Additional District and Sessions Judge Anubhav Sharma sentenced the the two violators, Hakim and Riyaj with a term of five years each. Hakim was fined with Rs 1 lakh, while Riyaj is ordered to pay Rs 50,000.

The police stopped the pick-up van going towards Hapur and discovered 170 skins inside. The violators tried to escape the scene but were held by the police.

In early February in the Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh, as many as 100 cows were found dead in a duration of two days at several villages of Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar, following which, an inquiry ha bee ordered in the matter.

As per the early emerging reports, it was stated that cows either consumed poisonous grass or polluted water which must have lead to their death.

Sub Divisional Magistrate Vijay Kumar had said that an inquiry has been ordered into the incident and a team of revenue department along with veterinarians had gone to the areas where the bovines died to ascertain the cause. The cows were brought to the pastures from shelter homes.
